A creative process with garden view: 2009
The house in Krzyki, Wrocław, is a residence surrounded by a magnificent garden. It is there
where Renata Micherda-Jarodzka actualizes her trademark – the symbiotic interior design
contextualized by the light and surrounding flora. The garden does not serve simply as a
decoration or background. Instead, it is the starting point and part of the entire project.
The building was moved to the back of the yard to adapt it to the lindens growing in the garden’s center. They are the leading motive of the whole project. Designing the villa’s interior, the artist combined modern and ecological principles, for instance, the heating system and the use of recycled materials characteristic of Flemish old and rural estates. The layout of the base floor is centered around the principal place of the house – the living room – that leads to an alley of lindens through three garden doors. The artist connected a large kitchen with the dining room, using sliding doors that hide in the walls. Once open, the doors give a functional space breathing with and absorbing the garden. Renata also planned the layout of the windows, which are adjusted to the path of natural light during the daily and annual cycles.
In the villa, the artist discretely united work and leisure – the designer found space for two
studios; bedrooms are on the first floor; the attic is designated for guests; and in the basement, there is a recreation and sports center. Typical for Renata’s projects, also in this residence, there are high-quality woodwork, natural stones, furniture, as well as authorial lamps and artworks, such as sculptures and paintings. The color scheme revolves around tones of gray, beige, and white. The whole project is an appraisal of the convivence of the architecture with its surroundings.
